And now taking the spotlight...

I have a batch of babies who are a little upset that the goats got blogged about before they did.

These babies actually arrived the day after Easter. A full five days before the goats. And since they weren't first in my blogging schedule, they're seriously wondering where exactly my loyalties lie.

In any event, the boys love them, and enjoy the snuggly kissy face stuff that goes on when little puff balls take up residence in the barn.

Our bunch 'o chicks is made up of Black Australorps, Americaunas, Silver Laced Wyandottes, and White Rocks. But one little guy stood out immediately after we put them in their brooder.

He earned the name Hoot, because when standing with all the rest of the chicks, he's bigger and reminds us all of a baby owl.

The funniest part of this entire baby chick saga is that our fingers-crossed hope was that the two moms/one dad/overachieving chick clan would adopt these 24 little puff balls as their own, and we wouldn't even have to set up a separate chick area.

That didn't exactly go as planned.

But what did happen is that their overachieving chick has defected to the little chick area.

See her in there? She has been seen, snuggled into the bunch of them, spreading her wings and chirping Come on little brothers and sisters! I'll keep you warm...

Overachiever, indeed!

    1. I'm pretty sure if they were given the chance, they'd move out to the barn. My husband and I were discussing last night that perhaps sleeping in the hayloft would be nice - it can't be any less comfortable than our mattress. :)

  2. AWww that is too cute. We have 11 chicks right now with a possible two more still to come. My son adores them. My husband is quite partial to them also. Love the birds. I wonder what breed your Hoot is??

  4. People alert! The animals are taking over the farm! The animals are taking over the farm! So great to see you all getting into the animal thing now that you finally have a real farm. And I'm still so envious of your bee-yew-tiful barn. I would fill it up so fast you wouldn't believe it!!
