no, not a swimming hole

When you move to a new farm, you're always learning. Everyday, its something new.

For instance, you learn that after an inch and a half of rain, this is what the ditches near your driveway look like...

...and this is what the farmers field next to you looks like...

...and that lovely garden that you just scraped off and fenced? Well that got a little wet, too.

3 days later, it's still a lot wetter than I'd like it.

The farmboys were pretty excited. They just figured we'd made them a muddy swimming hole.

Ah, to be a kid. :)

  2. Yep, we're needing the rain here too! You've got a lot of rain when you look out your window and you see ducks swimming...and you don't have a pond!!

  3. It's not been too long, but we are dry now too. I planted seeds last Sunday and they are still dry in the ground....hopefully once the garden is good and planted all that water will be sucked up. I can see the muddy swimming hole idea with the ditches. I remember being a kid and swimming in the flooded dirt road (1 ft high) after a hurricane. It never occurred to me until I was older that my parents were probably a little stressed by that water.

  4. This is just crazy. Was so glad that we had a night off last night to dry things out a little more and hope that rain for the weekend doesn't come, our yard is still a sponge. Did you have the hail?

  5. Now your area looks like ours~every one of my neighbors has their own "ponds!" I would suggest a canoe, but you may need an ark my friend...that's a lot of rain. Hopefully things dry out for you soon...there's a garden that needs plantin'!

  6. Ah, rain--we spend half the year complaining about it, and the other half wishing for it!

  9. Love how the rain makes everthing nice and green ...but not the standing water.....or how it causes those lovely washouts in our drive way down here in IA

  10. Is it unusual to get that much rain all at once? You may have to rethink the garden area or figure out a way for some drainage. :(

  11. Last week we had flooding, the week before sleet; it's spring in the Appalachian Mountains.

  12. We just got a look at the results of yesterday's rain. Looks about the same as you. Expect the pig, not the kids, is enjoying it all! Stevie@ruffledfeathersandspilledmilk.com
