so many holes

Well Mom, asks the farmboy. What are we doing today?

You gotta love a farmboy.

Fencing, my dear Ooky. We are fencing. Because eventually our baby animals will get bigger and want out of the barn. And eventually we will have other animals. Ones that neigh and moo. So we've gotta start fencing all these different pastures.

So...there were a ton of these holes to make.

Thank goodness for giant post hole diggers you can rent locally. Because a gi-normous amount of posts hand dug into mostly clay isn't any fun at all.

And no, renting a giant post hole digger is not cheating.

Farmboy Ooky was constantly there ready for whatever work required him to drive something during the never ending fencing of pasture number one. And its a good thing I took pictures of him, because apparently I forgot to take many pictures of the rest of the fencing project.

It might have had something to do with the constant rain. But I promised I wouldn't bring that up again. ;)

In any event, now that the fence is done, I realize it is pretty impossible to get a good shot of giant lenghts of electrical fencing, regardless of how beautiful it is and how many times you go out into your newly fenced pasture to admire it. It's kind of invisible. So instead you get a picture of one of the gates.

...and a small section that is hog panel.

And now the newly fenced pasture is ready for some (as of yet undetermined) animal to...well, test the fence. After all, isn't that what farm animals are born to do? ;)

  1. Looking good. That is a continual job around here. Lots of trees and the rule is, if one falls it must fall on a fence.

  2. I don't know what it is about fences, but I just love 'em. Maybe they signify organization or structure or security? (We may have to put that question to Dr. Freud.) At any rate, your place is becoming a real farm . . . FAST!

  3. My grandmother used the state of anyone's fence as a detailed declaration of the farmer's character. A new fence has you all as shining angels. Keep up the good work.

  8. Noone who's ever put up a fence would accuse you of cheating! We need to do the same here, but I think I'll hold out till we can rent a giant post hole digger too:)
