Big Red's Big Reveal

Well, we did it. Big Red finally got her full makeover. It took some time...can't rush a gal when she's trying to look her absolute best. :)

Big Red when we first moved in:

Big Red all done:

One of the really neat things is we'd heard a rumor that Big Red was built in 1918. (She originally was on a different property and moved to her current resting spot in the 1960s.) Guess what we found when we pressure washed her paint off?

The outlines of  "1918" right under the hayloft doors.

It is only right that we re-painted those numbers back on the barn.

I'd say that ol' gal looks pretty darn good for being almost 100 years old.

Her sisters got a makeover, too.

Gosh, these gals are so purty...I might have to get gussied up just to be near them!

  2. Those ARE some pretty gals. And how cool was it to find that date on there. I'd show it off too if I were getting close to 100 years old. You guys should have a big birthday party when she turns 100!

  4. Barn envy. Barn envy. Barn envy.

What a tremendous amount of work you all put into sprucing up those gals! HUGE undertaking! People are going to be driving by (well, driving down the road and turning around) just to look at what you're doing to your gorgeous, little farm.

Hope you took some pictures of the work in progress especially of big red, would love to see someone up there painting the 1918, I am sure you had more than just a tall ladder for big red. Love it, thanks for sharing.

  6. Wow! They look amazing! Yes, I think you should get all gussied up now. But how in the world was a huge barn like that moved? Was she taken apart? I can't even imagine a truck pulling that big huge barn down the road. Especially way back then. Y'all should be mighty proud of your girls there. Great job!

  14. Love it! Red is my fave color, and in my opinion, the only respectable color for a barn :)

  15. Big Red is beautiful!! Pretty cool that you find that date. Our house was built in 1900, so I'm wondering if the barn next door is about that old...she definitely looks it;) Y'all did a great job!

  19. She looks absolutely fantastic. I soooo envy those outbuildings. We're fortunate to have 2 little ones, though they may fall down around our heads before we get a real barn built!

  20. OMG-I can't believe the transformations. Love it! And so jealous. Hubby didn't want our barn painted. He likes the "weathered" look. So , here we sit , 3 years later still waiting for a murky dark brown/grey to show up. Not happening. I coulda had red................
