My great grandpa always said corn should be knee high by the 4th of July.
See this here corn?
It's Iggy and Ooky high!
Unfortunately, it's not our field. It's the neighbor's fields that surround our property.
Our field, which the guys planted by hand looks to be about...
...shin high?
Not bad for our first try, all things considered. And besides, our baby corn is surrounded by all that big daddy corn.
And that means they have something to look up to. :)

Great minds~I was just "complaining" that our corn reached a new milestone...toe high by the 4th of July! You are way ahead of me!! At least it's growing...:)
ReplyDeleteHave a great 4th!!
It is amazing to see how fast it grows. Does your corn have any Daddy Corn to look up to? That might help. ;)
DeleteYou guys are doing as well as I am. I just came in from looking at mine. I was thinking the same thing. I am outside Austin. I figure I just planted it much later....the deer who nibble on it aren't helping either...lol Corn in fields around me is already harvested....sigh!! Maybe by October????
ReplyDeleteI think corn in October would be pretty sweet. :) We have a deer who is snacking on ours as well. HUGE tracks...I'd like to get a picture of him!
DeleteI suppose it depends on whose knees you're using as a measuring tool...
ReplyDeleteYes this is true. If I took my four year old nephew out there in the field, I could say it was probably forehead high! (Ok...not quite...)
DeleteBut it's growing... :)
ReplyDeleteYes indeed. Thank goodness for that!
DeleteA little heat, a little humidity, a bit o'rain, and you'll catch up in no time!
ReplyDeleteHeat, check. Humidity, double check. Rain....? Rain? Hello....did someone say rain? :)
DeleteI'm guessing your neighbor's corn gets a lot of chemical help! But, we all start at the beginning and you've made your start!
ReplyDeleteat least the racoons aren't eating corn for diner
ReplyDeleteI am amazed at how fast corn typically grows now. My ancestors always said that same quote of knee high corn by the 4th of July. They believed if it were knee high by the 4th of July, it would be a good crop. The corn surrounding us now is easily 7 foot tall this July 4th. Crazy, but I would guess that the "steroids" that got the corn that tall can not possibly be healthy.

You are SO funny! The corn around here isn't knee high either but it's looking pretty good.
ReplyDeleteShin high is fine, because it's yours! LOL, your corn will grow every year as your farm grows :)
