the reason for a horse

Let it be stated for the record: I did not want a horse.

When a vote was taken at Clucky Dickens Farm to see who was in favor of bringing a horse into Big Red, my hand did not go flying into the air.

I didn't see the point. I didn't see the reason for a horse.

If we were Amish, yes. If we were barrel racers, yes. But we are neither, so...no.

And yet, a horse found its way here.

And now that he's here....

...he's quickly making his purpose known.

Jasper hadn't been ridden for a year and a half before we got him. He was due for a refresher, and we hired Farm Man Extraordinaire's niece, Horse Genius Girl, to do the work.

Work him, she does. Every day.

I'm sure Jasper is cussing at Horse Genius Girl...

..but that's ok.

Because she is Horse Genius Girl, and she can take it. She's simply amazing!

After several days, Farm Man Extraordinaire finally got to ride Jasper.

My husband attempted to hide his giddiness, but didn't do very well. :)

In any event, I've finally figured out through all this what the purpose of a horse is.

My sweet husband likes Jasper. And Jasper makes him happy.

And that's enough purpose for me. :)

  2. Enough said! As long as everyone is happy, I say go for it! Although, be careful, as horses and horse stuff can become an addiction!

  5. That is definitely a good purpose :o) I think you'll find that he becomes the "fun break" in having a farm. It's all alot of work, and to be able to just jump on and go for a ride is a little piece of relaxation for everyone. Plus they have such great personalities. Not to mention the beauty of just looking at them or watching them run around. I can't wait to get mine someday :o)

  9. I'm a firm believer that horses are pure gold for their happiness-bringing features! He's a lovely horse and the bond with your hubby is obvious. Besides, he will be making a very 'big' contribution to the health of your garden...ahem.

  11. Aw, a man and his horse . . . :o}

I still say I think Jasper will not be an only horse for long. Lots more fun when more than one person can go riding at a time. Just sayin'.
