Sundays at this farmish place are reserved for Scribbles -
short, random musings that collect while my mind has time to wander on
this day of (supposed) rest. Enjoy, and feel free to add your own in the
comments.
1. Today I give you random thoughts from Clucky Dickens Farm. Thoughts such as: nighttime hikes of one mile in windchills of -22 at Cub Scout Winter Camp are pretty darn awesome. :)
2. Not all dogs sleep curled up in a ball at the end of the bed. Right now I'm thinking of one in particular named Cash who insists on sleeping on his back, legs pointed up to the ceiling, between Farm Man Extraordinaire and me.
3. Being an involved parent can be painful. Especially when it causes you to say things like "Sure, Farmboys! I would love to go snow tubing down this icy hill where we will go no less than 117 miles an hour...all afternoon. It will be awesome!"
4. Some people think it's nice to have kids who use their brains. And it probably is. Except when they take you to family court (held at the dining room table) to dispute parts of a reward system you had set up for them successfully completing their daily math assignments. When your kid takes you to court over "unclear language in a faulty contract" you wrote...and wins...oh my.
5. My second book is due to my editor in about 24 hours. So why am I sitting here blogging when I should be putting those last tweaks on the novella? It could either be: a) I'm tired of looking at that manuscript. b) I'm a huge procrastinator. c) I like how waiting until the last minute makes me feel as though I'm living on the edge. d) I really like hanging out with you guys.
5 1/2. It's probably a combination of all those choices....but mostly letter d. :)
Love the family court :-)
ReplyDeleteI still think it was unfair because the person who took me to court (my oldest) was represented by someone who listens to arguments in court all the time (my husband). So I still think the farmboy had an unfair advantage. But...oh well. I guess. :)
DeleteYou surely do not live a boring life. Love your adventuresome spirit to do what many will not.
ReplyDeleteI had plenty of company at scout camp and at tubing, so I'm not the only crazy soul out there. Besides I do believe a boring life is waste of precious time. :)

ReplyDeleteWhat you need in the family court is something like the Article 134 of the UCMJ also know as the "gotcha" article.
ReplyDeleteNice~! I'll have to remember, since family court was such a hit with the kids, I'm sure it will happen again. :)
DeleteOn top of everything else, you're just about to send YOUR SECOND BOOK to the publishers??! (What am *I* doing with MY life??????)
ReplyDeleteYOU are being the AMAZING MAMA PEA. And that's quite a life full. :)
DeleteCongrats on the new book! :) Family court sound terrifying... LOL!
ReplyDeleteFamily court was hilarious, actually. I've known my oldest was a negotiator since he was little (when he was about two, we called him "The Negotiator") but it was amazing to see him trying to fanangle an extra math token out of me because he didn't like the wording of the reward system. :) He's gonna take over the world someday.
DeleteSeriously! Send that child to Washington to work on a budget! He'd probably get something worthwhile done.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it was YOU out there taking nighttime hikes and tubing, I'm getting too old for that kind of stuff! Brrr...
ReplyDeleteFamily court sounds like a hoot! :)
I would have pled the fifth and hired Cash to represent me. He's so cute that the opposition would have been tongue-tied in his presence. You definitely have your hands full!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your second book; you're inspiring!
